Avenas
Avenas develops a nanomaterial platform for passive heat protection, reducing heat transfer and cooling demand across buildings, vehicles and infrastructure without consuming energy

About Us
Avenas is a climate-tech company developing a new nanomaterial platform for passive
protection from excessive heat. Our proprietary nanoparticles can be integrated into
coatings, transparent films, polymers, and other materials, enabling existing products to
reduce heat transfer without consuming energy and with minimal impact on their
appearance or functionality.
Unlike many heat-management solutions that rely primarily on reflecting solar radiation,
our technology acts as thermal insulation. This allows it to provide protection from heat
not only under direct sunlight, but also in shade, enclosed environments, and when heat
originates from other sources. Laboratory testing across multiple formulations and
substrates has demonstrated temperature diƯerences of approximately 8-12°C
compared with untreated controls.
Our platform is designed for applications where conventional insulation is impractical or
where thinness, transparency, and ease of integration are critical. Initial target markets
include buildings and infrastructure, automotive, and industrial applications. By reducing
the amount of heat reaching temperature-sensitive spaces and assets, Avenas has the
potential to lower cooling demand, energy consumption, operating costs, and
associated carbon emissions.
Avenas is currently transitioning from laboratory validation to industrial scale-up and
real-world pilots. Our business model is based on partnerships with manufacturers that
can integrate our nanomaterials into their existing products and production processes,
enabling rapid adoption across multiple industries and global markets.
Relevant Challenges
Building Performance
heat entering through the building envelope. Our nanomaterial platform can be
integrated into coatings, transparent films, and other building materials to create an
ultra-thin passive thermal-insulation layer.
By reducing heat transfer through windows, façades, roofs, and other exposed surfaces,
the technology has the potential to lower indoor heat gain and reduce cooling loads,
without consuming energy itself. Unlike solutions based primarily on solar reflection,
Avenas can provide thermal protection in direct sunlight, shade, and other environments
where heat transfer remains a challenge.
The technology is designed for both new construction and retrofit applications,
particularly where conventional bulky insulation is impractical or where transparency
and appearance must be maintained. By complementing existing insulation and HVAC
systems, Avenas can contribute to lower energy consumption, improved thermal
comfort, and reduced carbon emissions in buildings.
Technology Enablers
Avenas is developing a new class of functional nanomaterials that can add passive
thermal-insulation properties to existing products. Our proprietary nanoparticles can be
incorporated into coatings, transparent films, polymers, and other material systems,
enabling manufacturers to improve thermal performance without fundamentally
redesigning their products or production processes.
The technology is designed to reduce heat transfer while using an ultra-thin layer and
maintaining the appearance and functionality of the host material. This opens
applications where conventional insulation is impractical, including transparent and
space-constrained surfaces.
Rather than being a single end product, Avenas is a materials platform that can enable a
new generation of heat-protective products across construction, mobility, infrastructure,
and industrial applications.
Decarbonizing Data Centers
intensified by heat entering through buildings, roofs, enclosures, and other exposed
infrastructure. Avenas’ nanomaterial platform oƯers a passive approach to reducing this
external thermal load.
Our nanoparticles can be integrated into coatings, films, polymers, and other surface
materials to reduce heat transfer without consuming energy. Applied to data center
buildings and supporting infrastructure, the technology has the potential to reduce the
amount of heat that cooling systems must remove, improving overall energy eƯiciency
and lowering operating costs and associated carbon emissions.
Unlike active cooling technologies, Avenas does not replace HVAC, liquid cooling, or
other thermal-management systems. It complements them by reducing thermal load
before active cooling is required.
