Day 8
We up-cycle discarded leaves into Rubisco protein. By reducing waste and creating sustainable protein, Day8 is addressing both food security and climate change challenges.

About Us
At Day8, we enhance the efficiency of one of the largest industries in the world, agriculture, while providing the food industry with an essential sustainable ingredient. Day 8’s technology enables the upcycling of discarded leaves to extract the fibre and taste-neutral protein the food industry craves.
At Day8, we are turning waste into gold by enabling the upcycling of wasted leaves to extract taste-neutral rubisco protein craved by the food industry.
We extract our functional protein from discarded leaves and by doing it we are more sustainable and affordable from those who need to grow their raw material.
We succeeded release the protein from the chlorophyll and getting non allergen color and taste natural plant-based protein, with great functionalities as food ingredient: outstanding solubility, producing gelling and foaming properties and having great nutritional value.
Relevant Challenges
Sensory and Physical Attributes
Day8 addresses land use challenges by creating high-quality alternative protein without requiring additional agricultural land. By upcycling banana leaves, a byproduct of existing banana cultivation, we produce protein with exceptional sensory and physical attributes without competing for arable land. Our protein is taste-neutral, making it versatile for various food applications. It outperforms traditional plant proteins with superior gelling properties and twice the foaming capacity of soy. Additionally, it offers outstanding solubility and emulsification, enhancing its functionality in food products.
Waste Management
By upcycling discarded banana leaves into high-quality protein, we’re tackling agricultural waste at its source. This process not only diverts tons of organic matter from landfills, reducing methane emissions, but also creates a valuable food ingredient. Our technology represents a circular economy approach, transforming a climate liability into an asset.
Food Waste
By utilizing existing agricultural waste, we produce high-quality protein without additional land use, contrasting sharply with traditional protein sources that require extensive farmland. This approach not only maximizes land efficiency but also delivers a product with superior sensory and physical attributes, demonstrating that sustainable land use and excellent protein functionality can go hand in hand.
