HydRoad
HydRoad transforms road infrastructure into a multi-purpose energy network, delivering zero-emission hydrogen and electricity for long-term local energy independence and resilience

About Us
HydRoad is a revolutionary infrastructure initiative that utilizes roads to construct systems for producing, storing, and distributing renewable energy – both hydrogen and direct current (DC) electricity. These embedded grids of DC and H2 pipelines turn roads into accessible, decentralized, and secure emission-free energy assets.
We are developing a software-based GIS solution for planning and managing a road-based energy network, utilizing available assets on the ground, to ensure that the energy supply meets the local energy demand completely. We collaborate with public authorities, research institutions, and private-sector innovators to implement pilot projects and scale up globally.
HydRoad is designed to serve a wide range of consumers, including residential homes, industrial facilities, businesses, and urban infrastructure, through efficient DC-based microgrids. This enhances local energy independence and improves grid reliability and flexibility. By integrating advanced energy technologies directly into road infrastructure, HydRoad supports real-time energy use and enables dynamic load balancing across multiple sectors
Relevant Challenges
Energy Production
Electricity is produced from PV panels covering roadways area, connected to a DC micro-grid operating energy systems generating green hydrogen, and supplied for local consumption. Hydrogen can be used as fuel or to support the local power grid with a flexible power supply
Energy Transmission and Distribution
HydRoad’s approach turns the existing transportation infrastructure into an interconnected energy distribution platform, packed with a steady supply of both hydrogen and electricity
Energy Storage
The hydrogen, that carries with it the energy from the Sun, is stored in a wide-spread pipeline network
Electrification
HydRoad embeds direct current (DC) electricity infrastructure directly into roadways, transforming them into decentralized, zero-emission energy corridors. This innovative concept enables efficient, on-site charging for electric while minimizing transmission losses. By leveraging modular DC-based microgrids and dynamically matching local supply with demand, HydRoad accelerates the electrification of transport systems and the deployment of resilient, scalable charging infrastructure
