Kitera
Kitera leverages technology from the Weizmann Institute of Science to revolutionize forest management with real time insights on tree health and CO2 absorption

About Us
Kitera’s mission is to solve the problem of tree monitoring in commercial forestry, agribusiness, carbon markets and municipalities. Today, forest managers mostly rely on traditional, manual on-site monitoring solutions to gauge inventory, survival rates, to conduct planting and harvesting, to measure carbon stocks, and to manage losses due to diseases, droughts and more. However, these methods involve substantial labor and extensive tedious manual information gathering. They are prone to mistakes and are not in tune with the digital age. Moreover, there is no way to get insights in real-time without sending employees and experts to the field occasionally. While some companies are also exploring newer technologies such as aerial inspections via drones and satellites, these methods are often prohibitively expensive (especially for high-resolution satellite image gathering) and are periodic rather than continuous solutions; therefore, they cannot detect stress in real-time.
Uniquely, Kitera offers a cost effective, science-based monitoring solution for both tree health and carbon monitoring – delivering inventory data, alerting to stress, and calculating carbon uptake both below and above ground in real time – even in remote, off-grid regions. Kitera can therefore ensure its customers prevent losses and sustainably manage their timberlands, forests, orchards or parks
Relevant Challenges
Forest Restoration
Kitera’s real-time stress alerts and growth insights help forestry operators optimize irrigation, detect early disease, and improve sapling survival—crucial for reforestation and afforestation success. The platform also enhances traceability and accountability in forest governance, ensuring long-term sustainability of managed forests and nature-based carbon projects
Preservation and Monitoring of Natural Carbon Stocks
By directly measuring carbon assimilation above and below ground, Kitera quantifies living carbon stocks in forests with unprecedented accuracy. This enables verifiable carbon accounting, supports forest protection programs, and empowers landowners to participate in voluntary carbon markets through trusted, continuous MRV
Monitoring of Natural Systems
Monitoring of the physical environment such as forest change, ice loss, climate and ocean parameters, weather phenomena, natural resources (e.g. water and soil), and impacts of human land and water use.
