Medium Well develops BioResin, a plant-based "magnetic" fiber that captures and purifies proteins from industrial side streams at food-level cost

About Us
Medium Well’s patented BioResin is a plant-based, biodegradable “magnetic” fiber that captures proteins from industrial side streams and from novel sources such as precision fermentation and plant-based processing. Made by upcycling agricultural byproducts like soy hulls and juice pomace into an ion-exchange fiber, BioResin binds proteins simply by being mixed into a liquid stream, replacing the expensive, multi-stage resins and filtration that today can account for up to 70% of production costs in food and biotech ingredients.
The technology comes in two forms. BioResin-Pure is a reusable, food-grade processing aid that captures and releases proteins at over 90% purity, offering pharma-grade separation performance at food prices, suitable for precision fermentation and plant-based products. BioResin-Core keeps the fiber and captured protein together as a single hybrid ingredient with up to 50% protein content, upcycling two waste streams at once into a nutrient-dense, clean-label input for meat alternatives, bakery, and functional foods.
Relevant Challenges
Process
We make the downstream separation of plant, biomass, and precision-fermentation proteins affordable, tackling a step that can exceed half the production cost of novel proteins and often keeps them off the market. Our single-step, food-grade capture improves the yield and economics of cellular-agriculture, precision-fermentation, and plant-based protein production.
