About Us

Salion Energy is developing a breakthrough battery technology designed to deliver safe, fast, and scalable energy storage for high-power applications. Unlike traditional batteries optimized for energy capacity, our aqueous sodium-ion platform is engineered to provide sustained bursts of power, ideal for critical operations where speed, safety, and reliability are essential.

Our water-based battery chemistry is inherently non-flammable, offering a major safety advantage over conventional lithium-ion and non-aqueous sodium-ion systems that rely on flammable organic electrolytes. It also leverages abundant, widely available materials, making the technology not only more sustainable but also highly scalable and potentially cost-effective at commercial scale.

With a high discharge rate and a cycle life exceeding 30,000 cycles, Salion’s batteries are built for demanding use cases such as peak shaving and backup power. The technology is ideally suited for data centers, commercial buildings, industrial environments, and EV charging, where fast, resilient power is required.

We are currently in early development, with initial pilot projects planned for 2026. Salion is supported by the Israel Innovation Authority and the Racah Nanotech Fund at the Hebrew University, and is currently engaging design partners and preparing for a seed round to advance product development and scale commercialization

Relevant Challenges

Energy Storage

Grid Decarbonization & Electrification Bottlenecks Challenge: As renewable energy expands, the grid struggles to handle growing and variable loads, especially during peak demand or in grid-constrained locations. Solution: Salion’s high-power aqueous sodium-ion batteries provide fast, localized energy storage that reduces reliance on fossil-fuel peaker plants, enables peak shaving, and relieves grid stress — supporting a smoother, more scalable clean energy transition. 2. Fire Safety in Energy Storage Challenge: Conventional lithium-ion and non-aqueous sodium-ion batteries use flammable electrolytes, posing safety risks in sensitive or urban environments. Solution: Salion uses a non-flammable aqueous electrolyte, dramatically reducing thermal runaway and fire risk, making battery storage viable in dense commercial areas, data centers, and mission-critical infrastructure. 3. Critical Materials Dependency Challenge: used in mainstream batteries are linked to supply chain instability, environmental damage, and geopolitical risks. Solution: Salion’s chemistry relies on abundant, low-cost materials like sodium, significantly reducing dependence on rare or extractive minerals and improving sustainability and scalability. 4. Short-Duration Power Gaps Challenge: Most batteries are optimized for energy capacity, not fast response or short-duration power — leading to reliability gaps in EV charging, UPS, and industrial use. Solution: Salion’s platform delivers rapid bursts of power (up to 20C) with over 30,000 cycles, ideal for high-intensity, short-duration applications — filling a critical gap in the energy storage spectrum

Energy Consumption

Challenge: Data centers consume vast amounts of energy and require ultra-reliable backup systems, traditionally supported by diesel generators or lithium-ion batteries — both of which raise concerns around emissions, fire risk, and supply chain vulnerabilities. Salion’s Solution: Salion Energy’s aqueous sodium-ion battery technology offers a safe, non-flammable, and sustainable alternative for high-power backup systems in data centers. Designed for fast response and short-duration energy needs, our batteries support peak shaving, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and grid-relief functions — reducing reliance on fossil-fuel generators and minimizing the risks posed by flammable lithium-ion systems. With over 30,000 cycles, scalable architecture, and abundant material use, Salion’s platform contributes to the decarbonization of digital infrastructure by enhancing both energy resilience and environmental performance in mission-critical facilities
