TAFTIRIUM
Growing sustainable materials upcycled from agricultural waste and mycelium

About Us
TAFTIRIUM is a biotech company founded in 2023, specializing in carbon-fixating, high-performance materials for the construction and insulation industries. Utilizing a circular economy model, the company transforms agricultural waste and mycelium (mushroom roots) into sustainable insulation materials. Backed by the Israel Innovation Authority, TAFTIRIUM currently operates a pilot R&D facility in Kfar Ruppin, Emek HaMaayanot, focusing on technology development and scaling up for commercial production.
Relevant Challenges
Low Carbon Elements
TAFTIRIUM produces construction materials with a negative carbon footprint. By incorporating unwanted agricultural waste into its formulation, the company captures and locks carbon within the material, ensuring long-term storage and sustainability.
Capture
TAFTIRIUM’s material captures over 1 ton of carbon for every ton of treated agricultural waste. By repurposing unwanted agricultural by-products—otherwise destined for burning or landfills—the company creates carbon-sequestering insulation materials that contribute to a more sustainable built environment.
Waste Management
TAFTIRIUM’s materials are upcycled from unwanted agricultural waste, transforming it into a valuable raw material for insulation products. By capturing over 1 ton of carbon for every ton of treated waste, these materials not only prevent harmful emissions from landfill decomposition or burning but also provide high-performance, sustainable insulation solutions for the construction industry.
Biodegradable Materials
The produced materials are 100% biodegradable and compostable within 30-60 days at the end of their life cycle. Made from fully organic components, they can naturally decompose even in anaerobic environments, ensuring a sustainable and waste-free solution for the construction and insulation industries.
Biomaterials
The novel material we cultivate is made entirely from organic sources, offering a sustainable biomaterial alternative to fossil fuel-based products in the construction and insulation industries.
