WindClaw
WindClaw unlocks 100× more usable wind by delivering ultra-low-cost, high-density turbines that beat HAWTs on access and economics - dramatically slashing LCOE and accelerating global clean energy

About Us
WindClaw developed a new class of ultra-efficient vertical-axis wind turbines to unlock the world’s vast, untapped wind resource. Humanity harvests < 1% of wind energy because HAWTs require huge towers, uniform winds, and large setbacks; making them super-expensive, hard to transport, slow to install, and confined to a narrow set of premium sites. WindClaw breaks those constraints.
WindClaw delivers a paradigmatic shift in wind design by achieving what was long considered impossible: lift-level force with drag-level cost. This breakthrough lowers LCOE per turbine, an effect that is magnified in utility farms – the area consumed by a single utility-scale HAWT accommodates over 100 WindClaw turbines – these produce much more energy, for far less money, in far less time.
WindClaw accelerates climate impact by making wind far cheaper and easier to scale. Its lightweight, modular, robust design cuts lifecycle emissions and simplifies end-of-life, keeping every kilowatt cleaner and cheaper from cradle to retirement.

Energy Production
WindClaw produces energy through a counter-rotating, drag-dominant vertical-axis architecture designed to extract far more useful power from real-world wind than conventional VAWTs. The system captures wind from any direction, transforms it into rotational energy through two coordinated rotors, and combines their output into a single generator with high mechanical efficiency. A key advantage is WindClaw’s ability to operate each rotor at its optimal speed, despite their differing radii. This ensures high torque at low wind speeds, strong acceleration at startup, and efficient power extraction across the full wind curve – something conventional drag turbines and lift-based VAWTs struggle to achieve. WindClaw also reduces the typical losses that plague drag-based turbines. Through its novel rotor interaction and flow-management approach, it significantly reduces negative drag on returning blades, leading to smoother rotation, lower torque ripple, and higher net power output . This contributes to exceptional mechanical stability, minimal vibration, and broader operational wind range. The turbine uses a new blade geometry engineered to increase the force differential between the advancing and returning sides while reducing high-pressure stagnation zones. This yields higher effective drag on the power stroke, lower resistance on the return stroke, and meaningfully improved efficiency relative to traditional drag VAWTs. WindClaw’s counter-rotating rotors also produce a balanced, low-turbulence wake, enabling turbines to be placed far closer together than either HAWTs or conventional VAWTs allow. In the land area needed for a single utility-scale HAWT, hundreds of WindClaw units can be deployed, each inexpensive, fast to install, and mechanically simple – multiplying total energy per square meter and reducing downtime risk across the farm.
